Parent Handbook
Welcome to the St. Anthony Village High School
Girls Basketball Program
It’s GONNA be a THRILLER!
St. Anthony Village High School basketball is committed to excellence. Your son will experience a
positive, fair & competitive atmosphere each and every day. We are determined to be successful
in every way.
Building Character Through Activities
After school activities provide a superb medium for developing character in a young person’s life.
A competitive contest represents a challenge that involves planning, preparation, practice, facing
the ordeal, winning or losing, reasoning, and finally, regrouping, a process we repeat over and
over in our lives.
Your daughter has indicated a desire to participate in basketball at St. Anthony Village High
School, and you have expressed your willingness to permit her to compete. Your family interest in
this phase of our program is gratifying. We believe that participation in sports provides a wealth
of opportunities and experiences that promote personal growth.
You are expected to encourage your daughter to perform to the best of his ability. You should be
a source of support for your daughter and the basketball program. Set realistic and reasonable
expectations for athletes, coaches, and the program while reinforcing the discipline, training, and
the commitment required to excel.
Requirements for Participation
• Physical examination
A physical exam is required the 1st year of participation and every three years thereafter. The
physical form must be completed by a physician and submitted to the athletic office prior to
participation. The form will be kept on file in the nurse’s office.
• Emergency medical authorization
Each athlete’s parents shall complete an Emergency Medical Authorization Card giving permission
for treatment by a physician or hospital when the parent(s) are not available. The card will be
kept in the medical kit for availability at all practices and contests.
• Parental permit and MSHSL health form
These signed documents will be filed in the Athletic Director’s office.
• Insurance

carry their own insurance.

eligibility requirements prior to participation.
• Financial obligations and equipment
o Fees must be paid before athletes will be allowed to participate.
o Refund of Athletic Fees - Athletic fees will be refunded in full to students who drop the
activity before the first official contest in that sport. One-half of the fee will be refunded if the
student drops before the 3rd official contest. No refund will be given following the 3rd official
contest.
Academics
Keep sports in perspective and encourage and monitor academic performance. The kids are
students first and athletes second. At any time you feel that you need to remove your daughter
from basketball for academic reasons, you will have the full support of the coaching staff.
Participation and Playing Time Guidelines
The amount of playing time per participant in high school athletic programs is always a concern
for players, parents, coaches, the Athletic Director, and the school administration. The athletic
guidelines are as follows:
C-Squad:
We will not cut players but we do have a limited number of uniforms (15). In the event we have
more than 15 players we will assign uniforms based on skill. Players who do not receive a uniform
will be allowed to continue practicing with the team in an effort to earn a uniform. While it is
important for players to receive game experience, playing time will be at the discretion of the
coach.
JV Team:
We will not cut players but we do have a limited number of uniforms (12). In the event we have
more than 12 players we will assign uniforms based on skill. Players who do not receive a uniform
will be allowed to continue practicing with the team in an effort to earn a uniform. While it is
important for players to receive game experience, playing time will be at the discretion of the
coach.
Varsity Teams:
Playing time is simply given to those who give the team the best chance for success. The final
decision regarding playing time is given to and is the responsibility of the coach.
Communication
Communication is very important. You should discuss all issues with your daughter first, and then
contact the team’s coach if necessary.
• It is required for the player and the coach to meet privately before a parent is allowed to
meet with the coach- No exceptions!
• No parent should approach coaches before, during, or after a game to discuss a basketball
related issue.
• You may request to talk to a coach the following day (only after player/coach meeting).
• If the issues have not been resolved, then the Athletic Director will intervene.
• If the issues are still not resolved, then the Principal will be consulted.
Appropriate Concerns to Discuss with Coaches:
• The treatment of your daughter, mentally and physically.
• Ways to help your daughter improve.
• Concerns about your daughter’s behavior
Issues Not Appropriate to Discuss with Coaches:
• Playing time
• Team strategy
• Play calling
• Other students / athletes

Practice schedules are available on the school’s website as well as the Huskie Basketball website
which is stanthonybasketball.com. However, there may be some minor changes to it as the
season goes along. Your daughter will be notified of all changes to the practice schedule.

school following the varsity game. All varsity players MUST ride the bus back to school. If you’d
like your daughter to ride home with you, a written note must be presented to the coach. If your
